You may have seen a shot like this on my Instagram feed recently.  I seem to be in a “nesting” mode as the end of summer is in sight and I will soon be able to reclaim my home in a small way.

Sometimes a few quick upgrades can make a place look and function much better.  That’s what I am after in my home right now.  First small project was a coffee station on the kitchen sideboard.

I was inspired by this great find at Canadian Tire.  A set of three nesting woven seagrass baskets, with handles!, for only fifteen dollars.  Couldn’t pass it up.  I’m a big fan of seagrass containers of all kinds.  They add a fantastic texture and organic look when combining storage and display.  You’ve seen me use them here and here as part of a gift and DIY packaging.  The smallest one of these became my coffee organizer.

I made up a quick cheater chalkboard-looking label.  It’s just black cardstock lettered with my white Sharpie poster-paint marker.  A couple of holes punched in the sides and I attached it to the basket with some dollar store twine.

I shopped my house for what to put inside the basket.  Here’s what I found…

This gorgeous bowl was turned by my Dad and was previously on display on a bookcase.  Now it holds the pods for the espresso machine.  It’s much more useful here and I’ll see it way more often too.

The sweet little African mug holds a few spoons for stirring.  It’s from a set of mugs and plates that was a gift from friends who moved to Africa to live and work for several years.  I bought this beautiful sugar bowl (with a matching creamer) from a pottery shop in PEI when we road tripped to the East Coast many years ago.  Both of these have been kept behind closed kitchen cabinet doors till now.

And what would kitchen organization be without something stored in a mason jar?  The ground coffee stays fresh and is easily accessible in this large mason jar.  Again a cheater chalkboard lid with coffee-making instructions.  Just in case a child ever wants to make my coffee in the morning.  You never know.

And not exactly a part of the coffee storage, but how cute are these little milk bottle vases from IKEA?  Darling.  At 99 cents, you can bet I bought a whole bunch.  You’ll be seeing more of them on this blog for sure.
