Pillar Candle Gift 3 Ways

In Canada this week we are approaching Thanksgiving weekend.  A much-needed reminder to count our blessings, and be living a life filled with gratitude.

If you are so fortunate as to have someone host you for Thanksgiving dinner, why not be prepared with a small gift to show your appreciation?  And no, your contribution of food towards the dinner does not count as a hostess gift.

To help you out, here are three simple ways to take a white pillar candle from grocery-store staple to lovely gift.

My go-to white pillars are the PC (President’s Choice) Classic unscented.  They come in cream colour too if you prefer.  If you keep them level while burning and out of a draft, they will burn right down to the bottom with very little if any dripping.  Great value for your money.

Start by removing the awful plastic packaging that it comes in.  There, you’ve improved it already!  Next, cut a piece of kraft paper wide enough to cover most of the height of the candle, and long enough to wrap around once.  Secure it around the candle with some double-sided tape.  Now you are ready to have some fun.  Look around to see what you have available for ribbon, fabric, string, and fall embellishments.  Put together a combination that you like and attach a small thank-you tag.  Voila!

In the first combination I used a remnant of lace ribbon that was half price at Fabricland during the summer.  A wooden button tied on with kitchen twine makes for a pretty and homey look.

The second combination shows a strip of burlap wrapped around the kraft, then a long length of coloured raffia tied around several times.  Can’t find any embellishments in the house?  Snip a few mums from the planter on your front step on the way out the door and tuck them into the raffia.

Also, a combination of glam and rustic can be beautiful.  I used some metallic wired ribbon, and then some dollar store jute twine to attach the tag.  The fallen leaves in my backyard are huge, brown and ugly, so I *borrowed* some silk ones from an old fall floral arrangement.

Anyone can find a spot for a beautifully presented candle.  It will be most welcome alongside your casserole or pie.  Or maybe you are hosting this time and will be the recipient of a pretty gift.  Another reason to give thanks.
