Happy new week, all! Last one for this March. I’m still holding out for “…out like a lamb”. The dog even got a haircut, because soon the backyard will be all melted and muddy, right??? so it will easier to clean her up, …right???
Today, here’s another little craft that happened during March Break. Inspired by the fact that I found these single use filters for loose-leaf tea while shopping in Chinatown one day. Maybe you have been long familiar with these. I first saw them in Parry Sound a few years ago when Miss Personally was starting to drink tea. There is a little breakfast and lunch diner in town where we go for lunch on the day we “go into town” while camping. Have you ever been there? I have no idea of the name. But in one corner they have a floor to ceiling selection of loose-leaf teas. And they make it up in a pot with one of these single serve filters, just twisted closed at the top.
With a few crafty supplies, I thought it would be fun to make up the filters into little teabags that could be given as a gift or a table favour. We had this beautiful rooibos tea that smells just as pretty as it looks. And that’s the important part for me as I’m not usually a big tea drinker, especially if coffee is an option!
There’s nothing especially tricky about it, I simply measured in enough leaves for one cup of tea, folded up the top, poked a hole through and threaded it with a piece of twine.
Then I used some washi tape to make a tag with the name of the tea on it. You could be as creative as you like with the embellishments you use, or maybe you would want a simple message on the tag. I imagine these as a great Mother’s Day gift given with a lovely vintage teacup. There are always beautiful single cups at thrift or vintage shops.
Or how about as a shower or wedding favour? Or as a teacher thank-you? It would also be sweet to include a beautiful teaspoon with it in a little glassine envelope. Be creative. There are so many possibilities.
My niece did this craft with me and took it to a whole other level. She used foam shape stickers and stuck them back to back as the tag, and wrote a letter on each one. Because it was her mom’s birthday, she made enough teabags to spell out the words Happy Birthday Mom (plus an exclamation mark, or course). Then she strung them all up on a garland with clothespegs so that you could read the whole message. Clever crafty girl. I love her.
I think there’s nothing like a handmade gift. Who would you give these to?
